2016 Rendezvous

Marlow Marine Cruising Club hosts its annual Spring Rendezvous!

FARO BLANCO RESORT AND YACHT CLUB – MARATHON, FLORIDA - May 2016

The Marlow Marine Cruising Club 20th Annual Spring Rendezvous was held on May 5th through May 8th at the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club in Marathon, Florida. A record number of members and guests arrived by boat, plane, or car to attend this highly anticipated event. Those arriving by boat were treated to a full exterior washing by our select crew upon their arrival. In addition, we had our top technicians and preferred subcontractors/suppliers available to provide complimentary services to all customers. At registration check-in, attendees were given a custom embroidered boat name goodie bag. The Cinco de Mayo theme was prevalent with the Margarita glasses and the custom Fiesta tin with multi colors throughout. A beautiful relaxed setting with warm summer breezes greeted our guests as they arrived for the Welcome Reception. A carefully selected menu provided the Fiesta flare with Mexican cuisine passed hor's d’ oeuvres and open bar. The true spirit of the event could readily be seen as members greeted old friends and met new members. The following two mornings, after breakfast, seminars were given to a filled room. Our seminars were purposely selected to be meaningful to our members. In addition to the seminar topics of engine maintenance, A/C and heads maintenance, Yacht Controller demo and product update, we had a very special presentation on Cuba Bound travels by boat. The seminars concluded with the ever-popular Marlow Round Table discussions led by David Marlow and the Marlow Crew. Friday afternoon, our guests selected either to tour the Turtle Rehab hospital or to take the private charter boat to nearby Pigeon Key to tour the grounds and learn the history of this beautiful area. Our traditional theme party held on Friday evening celebrated Cinco de Mayo. The Mariachi Band performed as the colorfully dressed guests, adorned with sombreros, ponchos, and Mexican dresses arrived. As the buffet dinner was served, the live band played select Rock ‘n Roll tunes throughout the evening. We have always prided ourselves to say that member participation at our events is over the top, and this group did not disappoint. On Saturday, after a beautiful Marlow Margaritaville luncheon on the docks, we proceeded to christen six vessels. Afterward, ten of the proud owners opened their boats to welcome all guests aboard. Our awards dinner Saturday evening was a delight to all. It encompassed many different activities. We started with the Marlow Style ‘Run for the Roses’-Kentucky Derby. Each boat owner chose their favorite horses, and the top 4 winners were awarded prizes. The sit-down dinner featuring choices of lobster, steak, shrimp, and chicken, were expertly served. After dinner, a custom floor show consisting of traditional and hi-energy Mexican dances were performed and ended with audience participation. Prizes were awarded for all sorts of accomplishments and participation during the events. After the Sunday breakfast, we wished everyone Bon Voyage and pondered the question—where will the 21st MMCC Rendezvous be in 2017?
